The
Museums of Lower Manhattan is a collective
of 15 neighboring museums and historic
sites located south of Houston Street
in lower Manhattan. One of the most
concentrated and diverse groups of
museums in the world, the Museums
of Lower Manhattan is a genuine American
treasure. Museum content and exhibits
range from fascinating multimedia
shows to intimate galleries of moving
personal artifacts to dramatic historical
landmarks. Visitors from around the
world are enthralled by true stories
about the lives of early Americans,
generations of immigrants and prominent
historic figures - real people who
helped shape our city, our proud nation,
and in some ways, all of us.
We're
right in the heart of New York's
historic downtown, surrounded by
wonderful restaurants, picturesque
parks and stunning water views.
And, most of the museums are within
comfortable walking distance of
each other, so it's easy to plan
a perfect excursion downtown. So
come and spend an unforgettable
day with us!
The
Museums of Lower Manhattan was made
possible through a grant from the
Department of Housing and Urban
Development, and administered by
the Lower Manhattan Development
Corporation (LMDC). Created in the
aftermath of September 11, 2001
by Governor Pataki and then Mayor
Giuliani, the LMDC's mission is
to help plan and coordinate the
rebuilding and revitalization of
lower Manhattan.
